Em Rusciano is one of Australia’s most well-rounded performers. With her finger in every piece of the performing pie, Em co-hosts breakfast radio, sells out the Sydney Opera House with her live comedy shows, releases chart-topping songs, books and audiobooks, and most importantly, wields a Bedazzling gun like no one else on Earth.
’Twas many moons ago when Em made it into the Top 12 on Australian Idol in 2004. She may have been booted out in ninth position, but her career was only just beginning. Em was quickly snapped up by Austereo, and spent five years in breakfast radio in Adelaide and Perth, before making the move back to Melbourne to try her hand at live comedy. And what a hand it was.
Jump forward a few years of sold-out shows to February 2018, when Em embarked on the Evil Queen Australian tour with huge vocals, hilarious stand-up, and a giant inflatable penis (of course). The Sydney Opera House tickets sold out in twenty minutes flat. Extra shows were added due to extreme demand in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and VIP tickets flew like the Wicked Witch’s monkeys.
But we’re not done yet. Em’s first book Try Hard went to the top of the iBook autobiography charts before it was even released. The refreshingly honest memoir received stunning acclaim from critics and fans alike, leading to a second reprint with three brand new chapters one year after the original release. Em’s recorded audiobook version also reached the top of the iTunes Charts immediately, as did her two singles, Brand New Day and Versions Of Me.
Meanwhile, Em continues to wake up at ridiculous o’clock to co-host the Em, Grant & Ed weekday breakfast radio show on Sydney’s 2DayFM with Grant Denyer and Ed Kavalee. The show’s excellent engagement across social media channels meant that Em’s interview with P!nk obtained more than 8 million views, prompting an ongoing thirst from fans for Em’s candid, honest and hilarious celebrity interviews.
She knows how to talk. It’s her Italian heritage.
Em’s social media community is fierce, loud and passionately loyal. With a Facebook following of 275,000 fans, 32,000 on Twitter and 140,000 on Instagram, she has a weekly social media reach of up to 10 million.
It’s Em’s outrageous fashion sense that has the funkiest designers clamouring to collaborate. Glitter, tinsel, colour, sequins, … Em herself describes her style as ‘unsupervised 7-year-old on a sugar high’. She has a supernatural sense of trends, always a step ahead at predicting the next craze; unicorns, owls, the internet (okay, maybe not the last one). emrusciano.com.au
